There are 3 stages after the lines are drawn out - Firstly, the shapes are chiseled out. Next they're colored or shaded, then they're assembled to form a structure/panel.
Each of these stages can be drawn to the framework; Primary Shapes/Forms (Chiseling), Secondary Shapes/Forms (Coloring/Contrast shading), and Aux Shapes/Forms (Assembled Structures/Forms).
The tessellation is the street maps which is the base rock level, the larger forms that are assembled therefrom are the primary shapes, whether the assembly is sketched/tiled on top, or shaded for aux shapes, or etched/carved inset for the purpose of serving as stickers/patches

Each stage is an opportunity to convey something. The stone-like material base in this case is actually the existing map line patterning, the tiles are chiseled out of those base map graphics then reassembled to build new forms.
So we're making tiles to scrapbook, making our own stickers of varying sizes, tiling the ground then building upon the tiled ground structures that are made of larger tiles. Next building/drawing relief designs to separate the different layers these are the borders of the clipping/tile panels. These borders will in some cases inshallah be where the title, subtitle, author/label, etc. will be placed.
